There are also important historical remains to be viewed. Each era in history has left its mark on the countryside. There are settlements and headstones dating back to Rhaetian Roman times, numerous castles, rural hamlets and churches from the middle ages, and the Rocca d’Anfo castle plus other fortifications left over from the period of the Venetian domination and subsequent times. The beauty of the built-up areas has also been left intact as can be seen by narrow streets, flower-decked balconies and ancient courtyards.
